My Testimony

Could it be the life-altering phone booth?

My life totally changed about a year and a half ago, I was feeling the same way as many non-Christians are feeling by reading or hearing anyone talking about Jesus. If you're anything like I was, you probably already decided to change the page to something else. But aren't you at all curious as to why a partying, drinking, club attending, adulterous person like myself changed almost overnight?

I was always a little curious about those religious fanatics. They always seemed to be happy, caring, and regardless of what career path they took they displayed success by the way they carried themselves. Well, I was out in England for work. I started my trip with my ritual drinks at the bars, a few nights of dancing and Karaoke. I even caught a couple of live bands at Harrogate's downtown "Blue's Bar". Yeah, everything was going just like it always had in my life. When I went back to my room I was lonely or drunk enough not to care. But I after work, I seemed to be drawn to the clubs and bars for that needed socialization and a drink (liquid courage) to assist me during conversations with total strangers.

This went on for about one month. During that time I met a couple of people on my job who were very polite, caring, and successful people. One of them invited me to attend church with them on a Sunday. So, I figured, why not? There isn't much to do on Sunday... anyway, the clubs are all closed. So, I went.

During the service a elderly African American man who was a very sharp looking man for his age, stood up at the alter and introduced himself as Pastor Peoples. He informed the audience that this would be his last sermon because he was retiring back to the U.S.A. He continued by telling us that the title of his sermon is called, "Because the Bible tells me so". Then I felt as if he were looking and speaking directly to me. He began telling me (actually the audience), that if you are out at bars and alone, you should give Jesus a chance. He is always talking to you... that voice that tells you what your about to do is wrong. You push it aside and do it anyway. That is Jesus trying to save you from your sin. Once in a while you hear that voice tell you something that you would never have thought of yourself in a lifetime, that is the "Holy Spirit" trying to lead you in the right direction. If you're sitting around lonely, you have a constant friend in Jesus Christ. He is always there with you. He won't leave you like your other acquaintances or friends. He's with you always. Listen to that voice. Listen to the Holy Spirit. At that point, I felt like someone slapped me in the face and woke me up. I wanted to learn more about Jesus, because I know I'm not crazy with voices in my head. But I've always had that voice in my head saying, "You really shouldn't do that, try to find a way out of it". But my flesh always got the worse of me. After the sermon I approached Pastor Peoples and told him "Thank you, that was the best sermon I've heard in my entire life. I'm going to start attending Bible study on Wednesday nights because I want to learn more about this friend of mine called 'Jesus'". Pastor Peoples looked at me with a big smile on his face and a tear in his eyes, gave me a hug, and returned the Thank you".

The following weeks I attended every Bible study on Wednesday. I studied Ephesians and realized that I've been looking for the wrong type woman to be my wife and I've gotten married in the past for the wrong reasons. No wonder my marriages never lasted! On Easter Sunday of 2003, I attended church and Pastor Pope (our Bible study teacher and Pastor) invited anyone to approach the alter whom wanted to accept Jesus Christ as their savior and change their lives from that point forward to live them with Jesus. I didn't hesitate, I got walked straight up to the alter and professed my life to Jesus Christ. The following Thursday, one day prior to departing England, I was Baptized. Since that day, I've worn the cloak of Jesus Christ. I try to be like him and I've never struggled so hard in anything in all my life. We cannot be like him because we are born of the flesh and with our flesh comes sin, desire, envy, and greed.

Have you ever see an overgrown leprecon? Well, Billy is the mascot at one of England's finest pub/resturaunts called, "The Queen's Head". He basically sits in this position, drinks beer the entire day, and socializes with the locals.

I met Donny Osmond on the way to England. Doesn't this guy ever age? He ages like Dick Clark. Anyway, Donny was in Manchester to make a new album. When I asked him what the name of the album was going to be, he asked me what I though it should be named. My response, "I don't know..." His response, "I Don't Know, sounds like a good name for an album." A possible chance at an album name went down the tubes. Anyway, I don't know if his music is targeted toward a 38 year old male. We will have to find out.
